Striving Beyond Limits, Forging Elite Teams

As the proverb goes: "A single thread cannot form a cord; a lone tree cannot make a forest."

To further enhance teamwork capabilities, strengthen employees' sense of responsibility and mission, and improve interdepartmental communication, over 30 members from Geron Stocks' Steel Wire Business Unit traveled to Jiangxiang Ecological Park in Changshu City on November 5, 2016, to participate in an outdoor team-building activity.

Participants included leaders from Geron Steel Wire's executive office, along with frontline supervisors from the Manufacturing Department, Quality Control Department, General Administration Department, new employees, and employee representatives.

Theme: "Striving to Transcend Ourselves, Building an Elite Team"

Under the guidance of professional coaches, participants were divided into three teams.

After rounds of brainstorming, each team unveiled their unique elements:

  • Resonant team anthems
  • Powerful team slogans
  • Distinctive team logos

With these bold identities, the teams embarked on the training journey.

Team Challenges

Two main team challenges were designed:

  • Supersonic. Rules: Coaches placed a set of number cards face-down in a designated area. Each member took turns flipping one card. Teams had to uncover numbers in ascending order (1 to 30). The fastest team won.

2. Challenge 150. Three sub-tasks: Ball Pass; Unfalling Forest (synchronized pole balancing) ;Harmony Drum (collective ball bouncing). The team completing all tasks in the shortest time prevailed.

Competition & Reflection

Once rules were announced, team captains immediately organized strategy discussions and practice sessions. During practice, teams continuously tested and refined their methods. In the actual competition, members focused intensely, racing against time to complete tasks.

Post-competition, the scores mattered less than the lessons learned. Team leaders and members shared insights:

  • "Discipline and rule adherence are non-negotiable."
  • "Clear communication requires simplicity and emphasis on key points."
  • "Methodology determines success; failure always has a cause."
  • "Individual progress fuels team advancement; personal errors hinder collective performance."

Many connected these lessons to workplace challenges like unclear communication and inefficient methods affecting product quality and productivity.

Key Takeaways

Through this training, participants deeply understood the importance of collaboration and communication—laying a solid foundation for future work.

Colleagues learned through practice and transformed through experience, gaining profound life lessons.

After tasting the joy of success through dedication and teamwork, everyone internalized the essence of responsibility and collaboration, as well as their duties as team members.

Interlude: Kayaking & Leadership Charge

During the break, kayaking allowed teams to relax in nature while learning:

  • "Direction determines progress."
  • "Synchronized efforts lead to faster and farther achievements."

In closing, Assistant General Manager Lu Jinhua emphasized:

  • "Apply this collaborative and tenacious spirit to daily work."
  • "Continuously surpass personal limits and elevate team capabilities."
  • "Forge an even stronger Steel Legion."

Under executive leadership, all are called to achieve greater milestones and build a brighter future for Geron Steel Wire.
