On the morning of February 9, as soon as work began, Song Jinping, a support worker from the Special Steel Wire Division, hurried into the office and handed a set of car keys—along with a USB drive attached to the keychain—to Jiang Guoping, the onsite supervisor.
Upon inquiry, it was revealed that Song had found the keys at the entrance of Haide Garden, a residential complex in Haimen city, on his way to work. He initially considered leaving them with the neighborhood security guard but noticed the USB drive. Worried that the drive might contain critical data and could fall into the wrong hands, potentially causing significant loss to the owner, Song decided to bring the keys to the company, hoping his supervisor could help locate the owner.
After hearing Song's account, Jiang examined the keychain closely. The car key itself offered no clues beyond the vehicle brand. Turning to the USB drive, Jiang opened it to find numerous folders. He sifted through files filled with advertisements and images but found no contact information. Just then, Zhang Jianfeng, supervisor of the bell-type furnace team, returned to the office. Learning of the situation, he joined the search. After combing through the files, they noticed repeated outdoor billboard advertisements for “Yujiangshan” Real Estate Company. Suspecting the owner had ties to the company, they contacted Yujiangshan's Planning Department, which provided a phone number. While the number did not belong to the owner, the person on the line mentioned a friend who had recently lost a set of keys. Jiang immediately contacted the friend, who confirmed the keys were indeed his. Persistence paid off—the owner was finally found, much to everyone's relief.
When the owner arrived at the company to retrieve his keys, he was deeply moved. “The car key could be replaced for a few hundred yuan,” he said, “but the USB drive held invaluable data. Its loss would have been catastrophic.” He pulled out two packs of Zhonghua cigarettes to thank Song, who firmly declined, stating, “This is what every Geronite should do!” Left with no choice, the owner retracted the gift, praising, “Geron truly lives up to its reputation as a listed company. The caliber of your employees is exceptional!”
